ESGAM Council & EXCO Holds Courtesy Meeting with MATRADE
The ESG Association of Malaysia (ESGAM) was honoured to hold a courtesy meeting with MATRADE to explore potential areas of collaboration in advancing ESG awareness, market access, and sustainable business development in Malaysia.
During the session, ESGAM introduced the Association’s vision and mission, highlighting its role in supporting SMEs on their ESG journey. ESGAM also shared the progress of its growing ecosystem, including its council and advisors, strategic partners, chapter presence in Sabah and Sarawak, as well as key milestones achieved since 2023 through events, partnerships, training initiatives, and community engagement.
A key part of the discussion focused on ESGAMConnect, ESGAM’s digital platform designed to make ESG more practical and accessible for businesses, especially SMEs that are still at the early stages of adoption. The platform brings together learning, assessment, solution providers, reporting, certification, financing, and future carbon-related services within one ecosystem.
ESGAM also introduced three major initiatives for 2026: the ESGAM Annual Dinner 2026, which will continue recognising ESG champions and unsung heroes; “The Event”, a flagship one-day ESG conference bringing together regulators, solution providers, SMEs, and ecosystem partners; and Project Tapau / Sustainable Packaging Campaign, which aims to encourage more responsible packaging practices through practical industry collaboration.
The discussion with MATRADE was open and constructive. ESGAM was pleased to be received by Encik Jai Shankar a/l Suppayah, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Deputy CEO Office (Export Acceleration); Encik Damian Santosh a/l Samson, Deputy Director, Exports Promotion & Market Access Division; and Puan Zuhaila Akmar binti Mohd Sedek, Senior Manager, Exports Promotion & Market Access Division. The session allowed both sides to exchange views on how ESG and export promotion can work together more meaningfully to support Malaysian businesses, especially SMEs, in becoming more competitive and future-ready in international markets.
ESGAM also had the opportunity to hold a short discussion with Mr. Abu Bakar Yusof, CEO of Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), further strengthening the engagement and opening the door for continued dialogue.
ESGAM looks forward to future collaboration with MATRADE in supporting Malaysian businesses through ESG adoption, innovation, and internationalisation.
